D.I.Y. Light Switch Covers

ok. finally!  I got a few minutes to do something crafty.

When we moved into our house, all the light switch and outlet covers were all mismatchy and outdated, so, obviously, I replaced them.  But, being the avid recycler (and upcycler) that I am, I saved them for a future project of sorts.  I also saved a bunch of maps from our trip to Europe last summer (the one before I was pregnant).  Those along with some Elmer's glue, mod podge, a paint brush, an exacto blade, and some scissors were my supplies.  Here's the step by step:

Maps, Glue, Mod Podge, Brush, Blade, Outlet Covers

Trace the around the outlet cover, leave a good 1/2 inch for folding (I also outlined the cut marks for the inner outlet part)

Use the exacto blade to cut an x type star
Paint the map (or paper) with glue and place on top of the outlet cover.
Fold the edges in and smooth out the map (or paper).
The front might be wrinkled but it will smooth out a bit as it dries.

Paint the mod podge over all surfaces, front and back, to seal the map (or paper of your choice)
Above is the final product, drying.

If you're not the crafting type or don't have the time to make something like this, you can purchase these from my etsy shop:
